Water Rate Increase

Updated plan replaces previously projected 13% increase with 6.5%

The Herriman City Council has approved a 6.5% increase in water rates for both drinking water (culinary) and secondary irrigation water, effective December 1, 2025. The increase helps keep up with rising costs for daily water operations, water supply, and the replacement of aging pipes, tanks, and other infrastructure.

Last year, the City shared a long-term plan that forecast several larger water rate increases over the next few years, including a 13% increase in 2026. However, after updating the financial model with more recent information about costs, water usage, and planned projects, the Council approved a smaller 6.5% increase for 2026 instead. The revised plan now projects 6.5% increases each year through 2029. Only the November 2024 and December 2025 increases have been formally approved so far; the later years are forecasts and will be reviewed each year before any future changes are finalized.

The goal of the updated plan is to keep the Water Fund (the City’s dedicated water utility budget) on a solid footing so the system remains safe, reliable, and well-maintained over time, while avoiding higher fees than are necessary.
