Fireworks in Herriman

Fireworks may be legally used in approved areas only during the Pioneer Day holiday. Under a new executive order from Governor Spencer Cox, Herriman’s previously adopted fireworks restriction map is now back in effect for the July 24 holiday.

Fireworks are permitted July 22–25 in areas where they are allowed by Herriman City’s fireworks restriction map. Fireworks remain prohibited in designated restricted areas due to wildfire risk.

Use the Unified Fire Authority’s interactive map below to determine whether fireworks are allowed at your location.

Extra officers will be patrolling throughout the holiday to enforce fireworks laws. To report illegal fireworks use, call 801-840-4000.

The threat of wildfire is always extremely high in Herriman. The risk of fire is increased when individuals choose to ignore safety guidelines and light fireworks outside the legal and safe discharge areas. Please use extreme caution, review the map of the prohibited areas, be mindful of wind conditions, and remember to be considerate of those around you.

Understanding Utah State Fireworks Laws

The Utah Fireworks Act establishes dates and times for discharging fireworks. The state law does not allow cities to completely ban fireworks during these dates and times; however, cities can restrict fireworks in specific areas where fire danger is greater. This can include areas near dry grass, brush, hillsides, canyons, trails, waterways, or other hazardous conditions.

In those cases, the City must clearly identify the restricted areas, create a map, and provide that map to Salt Lake County before June 1 each year.

A person guilty of an infraction can be punished by a fine up to $1,000.

If a person discharges a class C common state approved explosive:

  • Outside the legal discharge dates and times
  • Prohibited areas

Residents can report non-emergency illegal use of fireworks to dispatch at 801-840-4000.

Firework Safety Tips:

  • Never allow young children to handle fireworks
  • Older children should use them only under close adult supervision
  • Never use fireworks while impaired by drugs or alcohol
  • Never hold lite fireworks in your hands
  • Use away from people, houses, and flammable materials
  • Only light one device at a time
  • Never ignite devices in a container
  • Do not try to re-light or handle malfunctioning fireworks
  • Soak both spent and unused fireworks in water for a few hours before discarding
  • Keep a bucket of water nearby to fully extinguish fireworks that don't go off or in case of a fire
