Map showing the proposed Emmeline Drive Traffic Improvements

Emmeline Drive Traffic Improvements

Herriman City is implementing traffic-calming improvements along Emmeline Drive to encourage slower, safer driving through the neighborhood.

Planned improvements include driver feedback signs, roadway narrowings, and a small traffic circle. The roadway narrowings and traffic circle will initially use flexible materials, allowing the City to evaluate how the improvements affect driver behavior before considering future modifications.

The City will continue evaluating conditions after installation. Traffic data and resident feedback will help determine how the improvements are performing, and a follow-up community meeting is expected at a later date.

What Improvements Are Being Installed?

The improvements include:

  • Roadway narrowings using flexible delineator posts to create narrower travel lanes at three locations
    • Note: the westernmost narrowing will not be installed until the Rosecrest Pipeline project finishes work in the Emmeline/Crown Rose Drive area. Work in this area is expected in mid- to late fall.
  • A small traffic circle using flexible materials to slow vehicles as they travel through the intersection
  • Driver feedback signs that display the speed of approaching vehicles and remind drivers of the posted speed limit
  • Traffic monitoring following installation to measure how vehicle speeds and other traffic conditions change
  • Increased enforcement by Herriman Police patrol officers

The flexible traffic-calming features are intended to be evaluated before the City considers any future modifications.

Community Meeting Exhibits

Herriman City held a community open house on August 4 to share information about the proposed traffic-calming improvements and gather feedback from residents.

The exhibits below show examples of the temporary treatments being used, including roadway narrowings and a small traffic circle. Flexible delineator posts allow the City to test these improvements and evaluate their effectiveness before considering future modifications.

Project Timeline and Next Steps

Installation will take place in late August and early September, except for the westernmost lane narrowing. Once the Rosecrest Pipeline project has moved away from Crown Rose Drive (expected by late October), that portion will be installed. As work progresses, the City will continue to evaluate the improvements and their effects on traffic conditions along Emmeline Drive.

Planned follow-up includes:

  • Initial traffic data collection soon after the improvements are installed to evaluate their immediate effect on vehicle speeds and traffic conditions
  • Additional traffic data collection several months after installation to evaluate how the improvements are performing over time
  • Continued resident feedback throughout the evaluation period
  • A follow-up community meeting to review the project, traffic data, and community feedback. The meeting date is to be determined

Project timing and additional updates will be shared as more information becomes available.

Feedback and Project Updates

Resident feedback will continue to be an important part of the evaluation process. Questions, comments, or feedback about the Emmeline Drive traffic improvements can be sent to emmeline@herriman.gov

Residents can also sign up for City notifications to receive general and situational updates about the Emmeline Drive area, including information that may affect traffic or access during project work.
