Wide Hollow Trailhead Groundbreaking

Herriman City has begun construction on the new Wide Hollow Trailhead, an important part of the City’s hillside plan that will enhance access to the south hills trail system.

The new trailhead will feature approximately 70 parking stalls and trailer spaces, a 258-step timber step challenge staircase with 156 feet of elevation gain, the realignment of the existing trail, and the restoration of nearby hillside areas that have been disturbed by unauthorized roads.

To make the most of available funding, the trailhead’s parking lot will use recycled asphalt millings from City roadway maintenance projects. This approach reduces costs and gives a second life to usable materials.

The project's plan has been in development for several years and underwent multiple design adjustments to remain within budget. It is funded through Park Impact Fees and a Salt Lake County TRCC grant, totaling $1.68 million.

Once complete, the Wide Hollow Trailhead will help relieve parking congestion at other trail access points while expanding recreational opportunities for hikers, runners, and cyclists in Herriman’s scenic southern hills.
