General Meeting
Tentative budget approval

The City Council approved the tentative budgets for fiscal years 2027 and 2028. The City’s fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30. Approval of the tentative budgets makes them the official proposal for public review before final consideration in June. The budget is available at herriman.gov/budgets.
Police Chief Appointment

The City Council authorized the appointment of Cody Stromberg as the new Chief of Police. The appointment followed a recruitment and interview process after the prior chief’s retirement. A ceremonial swearing-in will take place at the May 27th City Council meeting at the city hall.
Wasatch Front Waste & Recycling District withdrawal notice

The City will provide a notice of intent to withdraw from the Wasatch Front Waste & Recycling District. The notice begins the statutory withdrawal process as the City explores hiring a private company to provide waste services with the goal of reducing costs for residents. The timeline is still to be determined, and residents will be informed if and when a transition takes place. No significant interruption in waste and recycling services is expected.

Other City Council Comments
- Councilmembers commended the Police Department and other City staff for a successful police awards banquet held this week and expressed appreciation for officers’ dedication to protecting the community.
- Councilmember Anderson noted a successful recent Youth Council concert event and shared that Youth Council applications are open through Friday for the next school year.

Drought and water conservation

City staff provided an update on statewide drought conditions and conservation efforts for the 2026 water year. The Jordan Valley Water Conservancy District, the region’s primary water provider, adopted a Level 2 drought response, which includes a 10% reduction target and potential surcharges for higher water use.
