New pavement along section of western Main Street during the 2023 widening and improvement project.

Main Street project

Main Street Widening and Reconstruction

Herriman Main Street is being widened, improved, and reconstructed from approximately 7300 West to 6225 W. This includes improvements such as pavement reconstruction, curb/gutter, sidewalk, drainage improvement, waterline replacement, and other related construction elements. Herriman City has contracted with Landmark Excavating to complete the project. The anticipated timeline is approximately February 2023 through early spring 2024. The original finish date was December 2023, but unforeseen delays have moved the finish date until after the winter.

Project overview

Improvements:

  • Sidewalks
  • Bike lanes
  • Accommodate safe walking school routes
  • Consistent roadway
  • Reconstructed roadway
  • Extended service life

Phases

(updated from original plan to reflect unforeseen project delays)

  • Phase 1 (spring-fall 2023)
    • Gravity irrigation work, stormwater installation/upgrade, utility relocation, curb preparation and installation.
    • 6225 W to 6400 West: culinary and pressurized irrigation water lines relocation/upgrade; sidewalk installation; road demolition, reconstruction, and paving
  • Phase 2 (fall 2023, spring 2024)
    • Stormwater installation/upgrade; pressurized irrigation relocated; sidewalk preparation and installation; road demolition, reconstruction, and paving (paused during the winter)
    • Prioritize sidewalk installation* from 7300 West to Dansie Oaks Blvd
  • Phase 3 (spring 2024)
    • Landscaping behind curb across the whole project

*Safe Walk Route

Due to delays that prevented work on some parts of the project for several months, a new sidewalk from 7300 West to Dansie Oaks Boulevard, part of the permanent safe walk route for Oak Leaf Elementary's students who live south of Main Street, was not be completed by the start of the school year. A temporary safe walk route is in place for this school year with crossing guards. However, due to the length of the temporary safe walk route, the Jordan School District is providing buses to shuttle students across Main Street to the school until the permanent solution is ready. The sidewalk is expected to be complete by December.

Impacts

  • Traffic interruptions with minimal full road closures. Most work will be performed in the road shoulder
  • Any property disturbance will be relocated or replaced with "like kind"
  • Dansie Oaks Boulevard will remain open throughout the project

Expectations

  • 72-hour notice to residents prior to direct impact
  • 10' minimum access to be maintained for homes and businesses
  • Daytime work hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
  • City property will be used for supply stockpiling and staging

Contractor: Landmark Excavating

Due to the nature of the project, interruptions to individual property owners might be for an extended time. It may even appear at times that no work is getting done even though there is. Please be patient.
