Re-Roofs

If you are only adding a layer of shingles, a permit is not required. A maximum of 2 layers is allowed. Otherwise, you will need to remove all shingles down to the wood sheathing of the roof which requires a building permit and inspections. Also, if you are repairing roof damage or remodeling the roof, you are required to submit for and obtain a Remodel Building Permit and inspections.

Permit fees are $94.94 and will be invoiced after the application is received. Permit fees pay for the inspections which will need to be done at the property. Payments can be made by check payable to Herriman City or by phone with a credit card.

Please call 801-446-5327 before 4:00 p.m. to schedule inspections for the following business day or after. Re-Roofs typically require two inspections:

A mid-roof inspection - after all shingles are removed and flashings and ice and water shields are in place.
A final inspection - when the re-roof is complete.

If solar panels will be removed for this re-roof project and re-installed exactly as they were, then the following is required:

An electrical subcontractor must be listed on the application.
An additional $47.47 fee will be charged on the permit.
An additional inspection will be required for the solar panel re-install. This can be done at the time of the roof final or afterward as a third inspection. A representative must be at the inspection prepared to provide or show pictures as required on the Inspection Requirements List for inspection approval.
